Mikie Breiner Shows Never Say Die Spirit in 2011 Short Track Nationals at Rockford Speedway Rockford, IL:
Mikie Breiner, driver of the #13 Salem Autosports and Super 8 Motel ASA Super Late Model Chevrolet, showed that he has a never say die spirit when it comes to fulfilling his dreams in racing.
Breiner, who was the 2009 Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Late Model series at Rockford Speedway, kicked off the month of October by returning to one of his favorite tracks to compete in the 46th Annual National Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway. One of the biggest racing weekends in the entire Midwest, the National Short Track Championships has featured popular NASCAR drivers such as Dick Trickle and Travis Kvapil.
His first time competing in the American Speed Association’s® Budweiser 200 Super Late Model series race, Breiner and his MB Enterprises team had a rough start to the weekend after the #13 broke loose in qualifying, almost hitting in the wall. Falling out of the top 22 cars in the race lineup, Breiner competed in the first heat race where he was making his way to the lead before experiencing a broken valve train and crossing the finish line in the top five.
Unfortunately, this didn’t qualify Breiner for the Budweiser 200. After looking like a dream would be coming to an end for both Breiner and his MB Enterprises race team, a silver lining appeared when both Rockford Speedway Officials and ASA Tour Promoters awarded Breiner with a promoter’s choice final starting position.
Although race day didn’t turn out as promising, after the #13 Salem Autosports and Super 8 Motel Super Late Model Chevrolet engine let go just 20 laps into the 200 lap race, Breiner said that his dreams were still fulfilled.
“I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to have been a part of this amazing weekend,” said Breiner. “In fact, I believe that if we would have had the money and resources that some of the other competitors did, this weekend would have ended on a much higher note. It is still a dream come true just to have an opportunity to say that we competed in such a historic race at one of my favorite tracks.”
