Frequently Asked Questions

How fast do you drive at Rockford Speedway?

Answer: Our late model stock car will regularly hit speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour.

Have you ever been in a wreck?

Answer: Yes. Rockford Speedway is a challenging track that offers plenty of opportunities to trade paint. As a driver and mechanic I do my best to stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, wrecks do happen. I am thankful for the safety devices and the NASCAR officials that help keep racing safe and exciting. If you haven't come out to the track please plan a trip.

Why do some drivers put tape on their steering wheel?

Answer: Some drivers choose to put a strip of tape on their steering wheel as a way to visually indicate when the wheels are pointing straight ahead. The tape can also help a driver recover from "spin outs". When the stock car is sideways in the grass at 90 miles per hour, the tape tells the driver where he is instructing the car to go.

How do you prepare yourself for an upcoming race?

Answer: I listen to music and focus on the upcoming race.

Why does your Late Model Stock Car have a Tachometer

and what does it do?

Answer: A tachometer is a device that measures engine speed. The speed is measured in revolutions per minute (RPM). The tachometer is a visual tool that tells the driver when to change gears. Some might ask, why can't you just listen to the engine? Well, off the track you can listen to the engine. On the track is a different story. Side by side racing can make it difficult to tell the difference between your screaming engine and the engine in the car 6 inches to your left. The tachometer also gives the crew chief a way to analyze engine performance after the race. The tachometer is able to mark the Maximum RPM during a race. This can help us tune up the car between each race.

How many races do you typically race each year?

Answer: 18 white knuckle races. If you haven't planned a trip to Rockford Speedway please do.
