Our teams first visit to the Milwaukee Mile was a learning
experience. We did not make it to the practice session
earlier in the year, so both our car and driver took to the
track as true rookies. The practice session on Friday was
HORRIBLE for us. We kept chasing the setup with no
success, so we went into race day on Saturday with our
crew chief needing to make even more adjustments to the
#13. Race day was overcast with rain threatening as the pit
crew started twisting wrenches, and rain showers hit the
track just as the team was ready to test the changes to the
car. After drying the track and waiting through a second
rain shower and track drying, the Mid-Am cars took to the
track for a few laps to finish the drying before the qualifying
session. After changing to our race tires we found that we
had made the car better, but it was still not quite right so we
qualified in 28th position. The sun was now out and the day
was heating up, so with very little time left before race time
the decision was made to stick with the setup for the race.
Even with some handling problems Mikie ran with the pack
and was able to move up to a 22nd position finish.
Considering all of the weather and mechanical problems we
encountered, Mikie had a solid run in both the qualifying
and the race.
